SMART - Sports, Music, Art, Recreation & Technology

The SMART program at H.U.G.S. is designed for Ukraine’s vulnerable youth population that has been directly impacted by the devastating invasion. The young individuals in this program have been forced to evacuate or relocate from their hometowns and now reside in Kharkiv city accommodations until further notice. H.U.G.S. introduced SMART, which stands for Sports, Music, Art, Recreation & Technology, to allow continued youth development and integrate elements of everyday life into their routines.

SMART Technology Lab

The SMART technology lab offers 10 computer stations to allow simultaneous instruction for Ukrainian children to learn alongside each other in a classroom setting.

SMART Team

Director of SMART: Alona

Alona, the director of the SMART program and native Ukrainian, works hard to identify new-joiners to the program and provide consistent H.U.G.S. services during this difficult time.

Paweł, a volunteer from Poland, has developed the SMART program’s technology lab and teaches computer literacy to kids in the program. Incorporating basic keyboard typing competency, up to and including rudimentary programming skills, Paweł maintains oversight of the kids and their development.
